MY NIGHT AT THE OSCARS...2007 EDITION

as you've probably guessed, the title is a complete and total lie.

but I did watch, and here's the down-lo (does anyone still use that expression? thats it! i'm bringin it back just like justin)

Ok so the 2007 Oscars have been over for almost 48hrs now, and Star is still covering all things Oscar as they will be for the next week. It was a good show, slow in spots, funny in parts, and even laugh-out-loud hilarious (gotta love george). All in all a good effort by the academy. Ellen did a good job. But I could've done without the gospel choir at the beginning. A little too much. And the crowd thought so too. They didnt know whether to laugh and clap along or be offended that some semblance of religion (besides the current hot one...scientology) had been brought into the Kodak Theatre. The dancers (are they dancers?) behind the screen creating the tableaus for the movies was quite impressive...but why snakes on a plane? wasnt that nominated for a razzie? and why, whenever i hear the word 'tableau' i think of 'bernice bobs her hair'????? The musical performances were 'meh' (btw thats my fav expression as of late). I think we've all heard beyonce sing listen enough lately that, in all honesty, if i never hear it again it will be too soon. Was desperately looking for the icy glares she was going to shoot jennifer hudson during the perfomance ('b*tch stole my chance to win an oscar!'), but they never came. either that or there were some fancy camera angles goin on. they seemed genuinely happy to perform together..oh and then the other dreamgirl came on stage (there were three??? j/k i knew there were three...) and it continued to be ok.

did anyone else find it funny that dreamgirls was nominated 3 times for best song, but melissa etheridge won for 'i need to wake up' from the documentary 'an inconvenient truth'? why would the acadamy not give it to the guy they thought should be president and anything having to do with him? anyone who says its not political is living under a rock...in antarctica...with happy feet......

i heard a rumour that eddie murphy was sooooooo mad he lost out to alan arkin that at the next commercial break he got up and left. didnt even stay around to see jennifer hudson win hers. thats what norbit will do to your carreer. its the catch 22. if you do a movie that will remotely get you a oscar nom, dont do anything that could be released in february and could be potentially a carreer killer. oh and dont think that going into rehab will get you any sympathy vote...

i think he went home and drunk dialed scary spice....

ok, ok...so heres my list of the best (and worst) of the night:

BEST DRESSED :
nicole kidman: i know people don't really like the dress, but i thought it was fabulous. the only real couture gown on the carpet and the woman worked it. if only i could be that long and lean....
hellen mirren: thats what i want to be when i turn 60. fabulously age appropriate! sexy as hell!
Cameron diaz: yes, yes, i know....but it was edgy, young, hip and so, so cool. i take back what i said about couture with nicole. this was couture at its best!
reese witherspoon: hmmmm.....sooooo beautiful. the woman who inspired me to cut my bangs...and now i want a fabulous purple dress. is it just me or is she starting to vamp it up a bit???
cate blanchet: duh! the woman is fab-u-lous! and rumour has it she's coming to winnipeg with brad this summer to finish filming the curious case of benjamin button (the montreal location is falling through). and by brad...i mean pitt...

WORST DRESSED:
jennifer hudson: yes, i thought i'd never say it, but there it is...would've been better without the jacket. would've been even better than that if she hadnt felt the need to put her hands in the heinous pockets of an evening gown. those two statements should never be together (evening gown+pockets=NO!). it just makes you look like you're itchin...and by itchin i mean scratchin...
naomi watts: yes she preggers, but the way the sleeves hung on her dragged her down...and by down i mean 42 longs....
anne hathaway: looked like a lace tablecloth with a gigantic moth across her chest. nobody should wear bows that big unless you're under the age of 10. and even then, only at weddings....
meryl streep: looked like she was wearing the immunity necklace from survivor los angeles!
beyonce: would've been ok without the 'miss america stone sash' across her chest. all she needed was the sceptre and tiara...jay can buy those for her...

ok, so thats that for another year. if i think of any more witty insights i'll edit.

have fun everyone!

my night at the grammys...2007 edition...

I will preface this blog by stating that I didn't actually watch the whole grammy broadcast...but what I missed I caught on youtube...

Oh the Grammy's. The event where everyone and anyone who thinks they're a musician or aspires to be a musician (see scarlett johannson), or wants to date a musician (see scarlett again) is out in full on rock star mode and are shamelessly flogging thier latest/upcoming cd (see jamie foxx),

This year I thought the Grammy's were good. Not great. But good. Hence the reason why I didn't watch all of it (that and the fact that I was at my parents for 1/2 of the broadcast...and couldn't keep my eyes open when the later feed came on). So if I take it a little easy on people its b/c, well, its my blog and I feel like it!

First up:

Clothing!
Best :
Jennifer Hudson (man that girl keeps getting better and better!)
Mary J (I'm glad she burned the big bird outfit she wore last time!)
Leanne Rimes (couldnt tell the front from the back but it was fabulous!)
Mary J (again) in the red halter. Is it just me or did she get more beautiful as the night went on?
Vanessa Minnillo - got the metallic look right!
Corinne Bailey Rae - simple, injenue. pretty.

Worst :
Hillary Duff: ummm...ewww! looked like a hooker with a bad dye job
Fergie: always good for a WTF? did she make that thing out of tin foil? I dont care if its Badgley Mischka Couture....JUST DON'T!!!!!
Imogene Heap: ummm...wow...gives helena bonham carter a good name!
Beyonce: is it just me or did it look like she took a bedsheet and wrap it around her and secure it with some major bling she found in her grandmas jewlery box?
Christina Aguiliera: the dress was nice, it was the pumpkin skin...blech!
Beyonce: yet again...ummm you'd think the stylist would warn you that the dress might be see through with back lighting...

Perfomances....
*well the tribute to the eagles was meh....bland....white bread....which is fitting seeing as though it was a bunch of white boys on the stage....oh and carrie underwood....
*tribute to those who have died this past year was awesome. especially the tribute to james brown. the cape on the mic stand....so touching...
*Christina Aguilera singing James Browns 'it's a man's world'. girl! you brought the house down!
*Mary j....so amazing. she is the consummate performer. every time I see her on stage she puts everything she has into it. All of herself. She is fan-flippin-tastic!
*Beyonce...I am so over you...and the fact that you got passed over for an Oscar nom so now you're taking it out on all of us! Take a hint from your song and just sit down and listen! Stop the singing! Oh and honey...you don't have to use your vibrato on EVERY SINGLE NOTE! Enough!

But by far...the best performance....out of nowhere...

Corinne Bailey Rae, John Legend, John Mayer...

this. is. music.

So today I leave you with this amazing, but true, fact:

Scandinavian berserkers used to cut out their eyes before battle to spare themselves the sight of the carnage they invariably wrought.

I wish I would've known that before i saw beyonce's see through vajayjay
